Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Lid, attributed to Nathan Dicks, Randolph County, NC, circa 1875-1910, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and flattened lug handles with depressed terminals, the upper body with lead-glazed coating producing a colorful olive surface with orange spotting. Clear lead glaze to interior. Includes original unglazed lid. Literature: For related jars, see Pugh and Pugh, "The Quaker Ceramic Tradition in Piedmont North Carolina," Ceramics in America 2010, fig. 28. Jar with wear to interior, in otherwise excellent condition. Lid with a 1 3/8" edge chip, a minor edge chip, minor in-the-firing surface fissures to underside (not visible on top of lid), and a minor 1/2" surface line to top edge. H (including lid (not visible on underside). 10".
