Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield, SC, circa late 1830s, highly-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, semi-squared spout, and ribbed strap handle, the surface covered in a heavy mottled-olive alkaline glaze with high gloss. Provenance: Purchased from Larry Vaughn in 2015. He had purchased it from a farmer in Johnson City, TN, who had kept it in a wire basket hanging in his barn, which likely accounts for the wear. A band of wear to midsection on reverse. A small in-the-firing at base on front. H 15".
