Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with narrow mouth, thin, flaring rim, and large arched-tab handles, decorated in slip-trailed kaolin slip on the front and reverse with drape designs and below each handle with a looping line motif. Gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. A restored 2 1/2" x 3/4" section to one handle. A restored 1 1/2" hole on side of jar below one handle, including four hairlines emanating from it. This restored hole tapers to a small hole on interior. A 3 1/8" vertical line on one side, not visible on interior. Some in-the-firing fissures to glaze at base, which do not extend through to interior. H 15 1/2".
