Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Reverend John Trapp and Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1848-1850, highly-ovoid jar with flaring, semi-rounded rim and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with iron-slip drape and looping line designs, as well as below each handle with additional looping lines. Light-olive alkaline-glazed ground with dramatic runs and high gloss. A sealed 5 1/2" crack in underside, extending as a stained, curving crack towards shoulder. One handle with a 1 5/8" chip to one terminal. A 3/4" surface line to exterior of rim, not visible on interior. A minor chip to exterior of rim. Some light surface wear to bottom half of jar. H 16 1/2".
