Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and large arched-tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse in slip-trailed kaolin slip with a drape design and below each handle with a looping line motif. Celadon-colored, alkaline-glazed ground with high gloss. Provenance: Purchased at Harmer Rooke Galleries Auction of the Levon Register Collection, New York, NY, Jan. 26, 1994, lot 6. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a somewhat recessed area to one side. H 15 1/2".
