Fine One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Bold Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to the Trapp and Chandler Pottery, Reverend John Trapp and Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1848-1850, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large iron slip design of a sunflower blossom surrounding the number, "1," against a gray-green, alkaline-glazed ground. Desirable size with exceptionally strong decoration. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Excellent condition with minor surface wear and a few minor, in-the-firing surface flaws. H 11 1/2".
