Rare Stoneware Jug with Two-Color Slip Decoration, Incised "X," attributed to the Collin Rhodes Pottery, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed kaolin slip floral motif ascending the front and brushed iron slip highlights to the handle terminals, all against an olive alkaline-glazed ground. Unusual incised "X" at shoulder, a hallmark most commonly associated with David Drake, although this work is not by his hand. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Excellent condition with minor wear to kaolin slip. H 11".
