Very Rare Open-Handled Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Phoenix Factory, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1840, ovoid jar with rounded rim and open vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed iron slip daisy flanked by two leaves with striped interiors, against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Desirable form and highly unusual leaf designs incorporated into the classic Chandler-type daisy motif. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A restored 13/16" drilled hole in underside. A 2" vertical line at base extending 1" onto underside. H 8 3/4".
