Minimum Bid: $200.

An estimate is an expected selling price for an item at auction. Unlike almost every major auction house in the country, we handle our own shipping in-house. We understand how frustrating it can be to have to work with third-party shippers to have your objects delivered to you. Meanwhile, we also understand how important it is for you to receive your objects safely. We have over 40 years of experience safely packing antique ceramics. By default your invoice will include a shipping total via UPS Ground; you can also, of course, pick up objects at our gallery. Please feel free to contact us if you would like a quote. (A very few lots will have notes at the end of their descriptions letting you know that the object is too big or fragile for us to handle shipping ourselves.)

Possibly Unique Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Applied Pears Motif, attributed to M. Perine and Sons, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1895, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated with a molded and applied design of two pears hanging from a stem, flanked by detailed leaves, highlighted in bright cobalt slip. Rim decorated with two brushed clovers. Albany-slip-glazed interior. Made during the final period of salt-glazed stoneware production in Baltimore, this work features a molded pears motif previously undocumented in the work of this city's potters. Possibly created as a presentation piece during an increasingly industrialized era, identifying the vessel's purpose in preserving fruit. A 1 1/4" mostly glazed-over chip to interior of rim. A minor chip to interior of rim. Minor spots of old pink paint. A 3" hairline from rim. Areas of staining. H 11 5/8".
