Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, wide, cylindrical crock with squared rim, tooled shoulder, and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated with swags on the front and reverse, cobalt highlights to the handle terminals, and dashes of cobalt below each handle. Lid, possibly original to the crock, decorated with stylized floral motifs around the edge and cobalt around the knob. Crock with significant chipping along handles, rim chips, and water glass staining. Lid with losses to knob, chips and flakes to flange on underside, a short, thin crack to flange on underside, and a 2" surface line to edge/underside, not visible on top surface. Diam. (of crock) 8 1/2" ; H (including lid) 7".
