Rare and Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Glazier, Huntingdon, PA, circa 1831-1854, highly-ovoid pitcher with footed base, short, wide collar, rounded rim, and ribbed strap handle, brush-decorated around the body with a stem bearing graduated leaves and tulips. Additional tulip decoration around collar. Spout with wavy line and swag decoration. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A rarely-seen form for this maker featuring outstanding decoration and an unusual, refined form reminiscent of English china of the period. Network of thin cracks around base area, extending towards pitcher's midsection in a few places as well as a short distance onto underside in a few places. Very tight cracks to collar on pitcher's proper right side. H 14".
