Fine Early-Period Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA origin, circa early 1970s, ovoid jug with slightly-flared spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face featuring bulging, orb-shaped eyes with black-slip pupils, broad nose with carved nostrils, ears with depressed centers, and mouth with flattened lips. Surface covered in an olive-colored alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders signature. Aspects of the modeling on this jug, including the glazed eyes and omission of teeth, indicate it is a relatively early example of Meaders's work. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8 1/2".
