Rare Glazed Pottery Pitcher with Relief Cherub Pattern, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'" PA origin, circa 1850-1880, molded pitcher with upswept spout and ornamental handle with thumb rest, decorated on two sides with different designs of cherubs in various poses below a grapevine. Exterior and handle decorated with sponged manganese, the entire surface coated in a heavy lead glaze. Underside impressed with John Bell maker's mark. One of a small number of surviving examples by John Bell produced in this pattern. Very nice condition. A small colored flake to interior of spout. Light surface wear. A circular surface line around underside near edge, not visible on interior. Additional short vertical surface lines to exterior base, not visible on interior. H 10".
