Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Dog Motif, Stenciled "PALATINE POTTERY . CO / PALATINE / W. VA," circa 1875, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a stenciled design of a standing dog surrounded by Palatine Pottery Company maker's stenciling. Inner wax sealer rim with a 3/8" chip, a minor chip, and several minor nicks. A 1 1/4" firing crack descending from inner wax sealer rim. A 5/8" surface crack to top of rim. Wear to rim. Some light surface wear. Minor in-the-firing surface flaws. Some light staining. H 9 1/8".
