Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A lesser-seen motif for this form. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Excellent condition with a small chip to proper left handle, a tiny base nick, some staining, and some oversalting to surface, not affecting decoration. H 7 1/2" ; Diam. 10 3/4".
