One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "CORTLAND," Madison Woodruff, possibly with Romanzo Smith, Cortland, NY, circa 1867-1869, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and squared spout, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a cross-shaped floral motif featuring two open-centered blossoms and stylized buds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Impressed below with two asterisks highlighted in cobalt. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A large spout chip with a 1" hairline descending from it. A hairline through handle. A tiny base chip and minor glazed-over base chip. A minor in-the-firing ping below decoration. H 11".
