Unusual Large-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, brush-decorated with a diagonal stem bearing three-petaled flower blossoms. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A thin Y-shaped crack across underside, connecting to a long crack at base on reverse. Areas of surface wear to body of jar. Some wear/in-the-firing dryness to cobalt. Chips to interior of rim and inner rim for lid. H 10 1/2".
