Five-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to Solomon Loy, Alamance County, NC, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and angular rim, the surface covered in a heavy salt glaze featuring dramatic top-to-bottom greenish runs to one side. Impressed "5" below proper right handle. Very nice condition with relatively minor flaws. A small glazed-over chip to interior of rim and a glazed-over wrinkle in clay to exterior of rim. A 1 3/4" surface line to shoulder, not visible on interior. A small chip to proper left handle. A faint 2 1/4" horizontal surface line below proper right handle, not visible on interior. A faint 4 1/2" line to underside. Some grease staining to reverse. H 16".
