Exceedingly Rare and Important Redware Flask with Two-Color Slip Star Decoration, attributed to the Loy or Albright Families, Alamance County, NC, late 18th century, wheel-thrown and flattened circular form with individually-thrown and applied tubular spout and recessed, footed base; decorated on the front and reverse with a sixteen-point star composed of alternating manganese and cream-colored slip, bordered by two manganese bands flanking a series of cream-colored spots. The other example, glazed dark-brown with three-color slip decoration, is owned by Old Salem Museum and Gardens. Some wear to slip. A minor surface chip near base on one side. Other minor surface wear and traces of old residue to surface. H 5 3/4".
