Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Two-Color Slip Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated around the shoulder with a brushed iron slip and slip-trailed kaolin slip drape-and-floral motif copied from Thomas Chandler's Phoenix Factory designs, all against an olive-colored, alkaline-glazed ground. A slip-trailed kaolin slip "2" at the shoulder denotes the gallonage. Missing handle. Otherwise excellent condition. H 14".
