Extremely Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Presentation Pitcher and Mug Set, Inscribed "F. Eggart," attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tall, narrow collar with tooled accents, brush-decorated on the front with an elaborate triple-blossomed tulip plant emanating from the base. Midsection incised with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "F. Eggart," for Frederick G. Eggart, a local feed dealer. Collar decorated with cobalt bands flanking foliate devices. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes original barrel-form mug with incised and cobalt-highlighted banding, inscribed with the matching cobalt-highlighted inscription, "F. Eggart." Few presentation sets of any kind by Remmey are known. This pairing of forms allowed the owner to pour beer or other liquid from his pitcher into his own personalized mug. Pitcher in very nice condition with a small spout chip and some in-the-firing spalling to the cobalt slip at base. Mug in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (of pitcher) 11 1/2" ; H (of mug) 4 5/8".
