One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated around the shoulder with groups of swags. The jar's color, lack of slip, form, and omission of "WAYNESBORO'" in the stamp indicate this piece is likely one of Bell's earlier stoneware products. A small rim chip and some minor rim nicks. A small chip to shoulder molding. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim. Some in-the-firing matte areas to surface. H 9 1/4".
