Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R BUTT / W City DC," circa 1835, ovoid jar with footed base, squared spout, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated with a large diagonal tulip motif on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Heavy chipping to base. Large area of crazing / surface lines to reverse, extending onto rim area on front. Two small rim chips. In-the-firing contact marks to surface. Staining to surface. H 13 1/2".
