Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Lye Jug with Albany, NY Advertising, circa 1870, ovoid jug with footed base and wide spout, the surface pierced throughout with numerous holes. Impressed "J.J. LAWLOR, / ALBANY, N.Y." at shoulder. Jugs of this type were used to obtain lye from ashes for making soap. Includes antique wooden stopper. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Shallow base chips, one of which is glazed over. Two short in-the-firing lines to base. H (excluding stopper) 17".
