Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "M. WOODRUFF / CORTLAND," NY State origin, circa 1867-1869, pail-shaped crock with tolled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a three flowers emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual form. Provenance: Ex-Skinner Auctions Sale of the Rogers Collection; William Bouck Collection. A 6 1/2" inverted Y-shaped line on reverse, not visible on interior. A 1 1/2" chipped section to rim on reverse. A faint 1 1/2" Y-shaped line on reverse, not visible on interior.
