Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "THOMPSON & TYLER / TROY NY.," circa 1858, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing two spotted blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Relatively few stoneware pieces bearing this mark are known as the stamp was used for roughly one year during the partnership of William Thompson and Isaac Tyler. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Chipping to proper right handle. A 1 1/8" area of shallow chipping to proper left handle. Spots of staining to surface. A restored 2 1/2" section to rim on reverse. Two minor nicks to inner rim for lid. H 12 3/4".
