Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "L. LEHMAN & CO. / WEST 12TH ST. N.Y.," Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1860, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with an elaborate grapevine design featuring two clusters of grapes, looping tendrils, and several leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual form and size for this maker. Provenance: James Chebalo Collection. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on far left side of crock's front. An approximately 7 1/4" x 3 3/4" area of exfoliation to right side of crock/far right side of crock's front. A smaller area of exfoliation to base on front. A 4" crack from rim on reverse. Some light staining. Diam. 14 1/2" ; H 7 1/2".
