Fine Glazed Redware Vase with Elaborate Inscription, Jacob Medinger, Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA, Dated October 22 1931, ovoid form with footed base, flaring collar, and heavily-ribbed open handles, incised across the front, "This vase was / made by Jacob Medinger / October 22 1931 / at Limerick Pottery." Coggled treatment to rim and shoulder. Lead-glazed surface featuring sponged manganese decoration against an olive-to-orange ground. Medinger died from a kiln accident the year after he made this vase. Provenance: Descended in the Medinger family to its current owner. One base chip. A glazed-over firing crack in underside. Minor surface wear. H 11".
