Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing conjoined blossoms with long stamens, accented with fanned foliate motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Unusual composition to design. Very nice condition with a 1 1/2" hairline from rim on front, a 3" crack at base, extending 3/4" onto underside, and minor wear to cobalt. Jar is slightly out-of-round. H 10 1/8".
