Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Rabbit Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON, / East Bennington, Vt.," circa 1845, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed design of a leaping rabbit with stylized foliate motif below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Among the bolder renderings of this Bennington decoration that we have offered. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Excellent condition with some staining and a few in-the-making flaws including a gouge mark to clay at base. H 13 1/2".
