Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Butterfly Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1840, highly-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, the front decorated with a brushed design of a butterfly with dotted incising for eyes. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A short crack on underside, which forms an 8" fairly tight spider crack that extends up right side of jug's front. Some minor in-the-firing flaws to surface.
