Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Greenish Slip Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHATELY," MA origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed flower in unusual cobalt slip with greenish cast (possibly a cobalt and Albany slip mix), the center surrounding the number, "3." A thin 3 3/4" crack from rim on front. A 7 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. Water glass staining to interior. Minor water glass staining to exterior. A minor ping and adhered piece of clay to rim on front. An in-the-firing contact mark near base on far left side of crock's front. H 9 7/8".
