Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON, / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a large daisy with spiraling center, surrounded by dotted trails and flourishes. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Very nice condition with the following flaws: a 1 3/4" piece of clay residue at base, a small piece of adhered clay to handle and reverse, two small spout chips, an inverted U-shaped line to spout, and some staining. H 13 1/2".
