Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT:," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of crossed crested birds perched on a branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Very nice condition, the spout with a 1" crack, a small chip, and minor nick, the surface with minor wear. H 13 1/2".
