Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, Crolius / Corselius Family, Manhattan, NY or Capt. James Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ, fourth quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled base and shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and vertical loop handles, decorated with a slip-trailed "watch spring" motif on the front and reverse, watch spring motifs emanating from the base of the handles, and a cobalt band below the rim. Significant flaking to jar. An approximately 4" inverted Y-shaped line to shoulder area on reverse. Tight lines to rim and shoulder area, most of which do not appear to be visible on the interior. Iron pings to surface. Heavy chipping to foot. H 13 1/2".
