Outstanding Ten-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Alkaline Glaze, Stamped "D S," Daniel Seagle, Vale, NC, circa 1840, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and ribbed open handles, the surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze with darker runs to the midsection and handles. Impressed "D S" at shoulder on one side and "10" at shoulder on opposing side. Exceptional size and form typifying the refined, sculptural quality of Seagle's work. Excellent condition with some light chipping to spout and minor wear to handle. H 21 1/2".
