Rare Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock, Inscribed "Whittmore Robinson. &. Co / Middlebury / Ohio," circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the large script inscription, "Whittmore Robinson. &. Co / Middlebury / Ohio." Shoulder inscribed "6" flanked by foliate motifs and underscored with spots. Some fry to cobalt. A thin 4 1/4" crack from rim on reverse. A minor, smooth in-the-firing contact mark to proper right handle. Staining to surface. H 13 3/8".
