Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Hen and Rooster Pecking Corn Decoration, attributed to Brady & Ryan, Ellenville, NY, circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorate with a slip-trailed design of a hen with upswept tail and crest and rooster with crest, waddle, and downward-curving tail, pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Desirable New York State motif. Very nice condition. Small rim chips on exterior. A 3/4" rim chip on interior. Minor staining. Remnants of an old ink notation at shoulder on reverse. An in-the-firing discolored spot at base on reverse. H 11 1/2".
