Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Cottageville, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "ABE McCOY. / GENERAL / MERCHANDISE. / COTTAGEVILLE.W.VA." Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Freehand "2" with flourishes at base. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Wear to surface including cobalt. Some light staining. H 11 3/4".
