Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER. MASS.," circa 1858-1877, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken with raised comb and swag-accented body standing atop a looping ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes carved wooden stopper. The first example of Frank B. Norton stoneware that we have offered featuring a chicken decoration. Excellent condition with some minor bubbling to head of chicken, some typical minor in-the-firing flaws to surface, and some light staining to reverse. H 13 3/4".
