Very Rare Redware Charger with Sgraffito Rooster Motif, Philadelphia, PA origin, second half 18th century, with coggled edge, the lead-glazed interior dipped in yellow slip and decorated with a large sgraffito design of a rooster with scrolled tail and scalloped feather detail. Sgraffito cyma curve decoration to shoulder. Interior further decorated with large swathes of copper. Outstanding decoration and size. Pieces of this age and quality are nearly non-existent in an intact state. Provenance: Excavated decades ago in Philadelphia. Broken into pieces with significant professional restoration throughout. Rim chips. Diam. 13 3/4".
