Very Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Plate, Stamped "J. McCULLY / TRENTON", New Jersey origin, circa 1800-1850, with coggled edge, the interior decorated throughout with wavy trails of yellow slip under a clear lead glaze. Reverse with very rare Joseph McCully maker's mark within an oval border. Little is known of the redware products made at a Trenton, New Jersey, operation started by Joseph McCully (b. 1771- d. 1857), and relatively few signed pieces are known. A similar plate resides in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Interior with knife marks, two thin, sliver-shaped flakes, and various other small flakes. Small rim chips. Diam. 10 1/4".
