One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New England origin, mid 19th century, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird perched atop a stylized drape motif. A 1 1/2" crack from rim on side of jar. Otherwise minor flaws. A minor chip to interior of rim. A small in-the-firing ping to right of decoration. Light surface staining. Some minor bubbling to cobalt. A few minuscule nicks to inner rim for lid. A small in-the-firing chip to underside at bottom edge of jar. Minor surface wear to reverse. H 11".
