Rare Large-Sized Glazed Redware Cream Pitcher, attributed to Adam Kern, Winchester, VA or Mechanicstown (now Thurmont), MD, circa 1881-1883, ovoid pitcher with flared collar, the surface covered in a mottled cream-colored slip, decorated with flecked splashes of manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. The pitcher's distinctive glaze matches other signed works by Kern, including examples bearing the stamp of his 1882 partnership with Anthony Bacher in Winchester. Areas of glaze loss to base and midsection. Shallow chips and wear to rim. Wear to edge of spout. A few minor nicks of glaze to base of collar, a glaze flake to base of handle, and a minor glaze nick to handle. H 7 3/4".
