Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS, / MANUFACTURER, / NEW-YORK," Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1825, narrow-bodied, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a wavy drape motif. Cobalt highlights to edge of handles. Unusual form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned by a Crolius descendant. A 2 5/8" loss to rim on reverse/side of jar. Two minor rim chips. A 2 1/4" line on underside forming a T at base. Traces of old blue and red paint to surface, most prominent on interior. Residue to reverse shoulder. H 14 1/2".
