Extremely Rare Glazed Earthenware Figural Monkey Pitcher, Inscribed "Oakwood Pottery / Dayton / O.," OH origin, circa 1877-1926, large-sized molded pitcher in the form of a seated monkey holding a piece of fruit, its curled tail forming the vessel's handle and mouth forming the spout. Hand incised hair throughout. Surface covered in a mottled brown glaze with green streaks to one side. Underside incised "OA[K]WOOD POTTERY / DAYTON / O." Exceptional form. A chip and minor nick to one hand. A few minor chips to lower lip. A shallow 2 3/8" flake to underside at edge, adjacent to minor chip at base. A tiny nick to one foot. H 12".
