Exceptional Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle and Freehand Stripe Decoration, attributed to Stephen H. Ward, West Brownsville, PA, circa 1870, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, featuring a stenciled design of a Federal eagle with shield across its chest, clutching olive branches and arrows. Lavishly-decorated above and below with alternating straight and wavy freehand stripes. Very nice condition with small rim chips, staining, and some minor wear to surface. H 9 1/2".
