Rare Painted Redware Bank with Monkey Finial, PA origin, circa 1880, spherical bank with molded grape vine design to shoulder, the finial molded in the form of a begging monkey holding an oval platter to accept money. Carved coin slot in interior base of platter. Surface cold-painted gold with purple, green, red, and white highlights. Provenance: Acquired by the consignor at a Pennsylvania estate auction in the early 1990s. Excellent condition with minor chipping to slot. H 4 3/4".
