Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "SCHMID & GERMAN / ALLENTOWN PA," late 19th century, ovoid, bowl-like form with semi-rounded rim, decorated with a leaf accented with spots. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. The first example of stoneware bearing this mark that we have offered. A 4" line from rim and a 2 1/2" line from rim. Small rim chips. A 4 1/4" hairline on underside, continuing 1" up base. Some staining to surface. H 6 5/8" ; Diam. 8 3/4".
