Two Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, NY State origin, mid 19th century, a highly-ovoid jug with freehand 2 above a foliate motif, stamped with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "N. WHITE. UTICA," circa 1840; paired with a two-gallon jug with elaborately-brushed floral motif, stamped with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "N. CLARK, JR. / ATHENS, N.Y.." circa 1860. White jug with a 1 5/8" in-the-firing flake to underside, two in-the-firing chips to top of spout, a short line to top of spout, a glazed-over flake near base on reverse, minor surface wear, and a small spot of fry to cobalt. Clark jug with large in-the-firing flake to top of spout and minor staining, in otherwise excellent condition. H (of White jug) 13 1/4".
